June to August is the coldest time of the year in Melbourne so we thought we’d put together some tips on how you can create a cosy venue and al fresco dining.
How to create a cosy atmosphere
Creating a cosy atmosphere means bringing lots of different elements together and giving careful consideration to each one to ensure you’re enhancing your space as best you can.
In general, there are 3 types of lighting: ambient which is the main light source of a room; task lighting, which allows staff and customers to perform certain tasks; and accent lighting which adds a hint of drama to your space.
Low warm lighting is the best option when you’re looking to create a cosy atmosphere. It can make your customers feel relaxed and wanting to stay longer. However, to avoid isolating customers and making the area feel too intimate, you might want to consider adding candles to your tables and stringing up fairy lights to make more of your cosy display.
Furniture and accessories
It’s naturally important to buy café chairs and tables which suit your café and its décor but if you’re looking for an ultra-cosy setting, you might want to consider utilising warm tactile wood, faux leather seats, velvet cushions, and copper. Ideally, keep clear of white or chrome and opt instead from a wide array of materials that are available.
You know the saying “less is more”, and if your venue is too cluttered, it can put people off. Try getting the right balance of colours, accessories, and artwork and your café will look stunning.
There are plenty of colours that lend themselves to restaurants and cafes but rustic autumnal colours such as browns and golds, orange, and muted reds are all associated with comfort, warmth, and happiness which makes them the perfect choice for those seeking to create an area that feels relaxed and cosy.
How to create cosy al fresco settings on chilly evenings
There are a lot of materials to choose from for an outdoor dining area including wood, rattan, aluminium and plastic. While plastic and aluminium don’t sound that cosy, realistic wood finishes can make them look simply stunning making them a great choice for a cosy setting. Pair your furniture with warm throws and cushions, and add in candles, fairy lights, and flowers, and you’ll have an attractive and wonderful outdoor dining area.
As you can see there are many ways that you can make your café or restaurant feel cosy and comfortable at this time of the year from lighting and colour scheme to dining chairs and accessories. Pair them together perfectly and make the most of these cooler days and nights.
