Before rushing out to buy wooden cafe chairs there are a few things you should know about commercial-grade chairs.
All sorts of wood chairs have some sort of reinforcement in their joints. Nine times out of ten it’s quite minimal, particularly if they’re not intended for commercial use. Chairs which are branded as commercial chairs should feel much sturdier and be made from stronger materials which enable them to be used frequently on a daily basis in busy cafe environments.
The majority of wood chairs also have support bars beneath the seat which connect the legs for added stabiity and resistance. Typically any support bar will be made stronger with larger ‘L’ brackets.
In addition, commercial chairs should have thick solid wood corner blocks that are strengthened with heavy duty screws and glue as compared to thinner blocks which are held together by screws of a small diameter. Even if the chairs look identical at first sight, this feature alone should make it easier for you to identify a commercial- grade chair and ensure that you’re getting a long lasting durable wooden chair.
Another point to look out for is the chair’s wood seat. Most of the chairs for home use tend to have a rounded plywood seat. While it may look good it tends not to be as comfortable when sat on for a longer period of time and doesn’t usually last as long. Commercial-grade chairs should feature a saddle shaped wooden seat for added strength and comfort.
Matching your chairs to your décor
While a commercial-grade wood chair should function well in any cafe setting, it’s important to consider its form too. Your chosen chair needs to complement your interior and convey the image that you’re trying to portray. For example, if at night you like to dim down the lights and set lit candles on the tables to create an intimate ambience, then mahogany or cherry stained wood chairs would fit well. These colours reflect light well and help create a romantic feel.
If your trade is mostly during the day, then natural or walnut stained chairs may look more inviting and will blend in more easily with your cafe lighting. The same applies to the design of the chair.
For example, a curvy Benwood chair gives more of an up-market feel than our Bronx chair which has a more casual, industrial feel to it.
